Mission Statement

Placing power behind prose, it is our mission to create and support positive impact within our communities and environment.  From the gentle to the mental, Write Hook cards illuminate life.

About Us

The heart and soul of Write Hook is about creating a positive impact - in the lives of those who give and receive our cards, in our natural environment and in giving back to our community.  The drive to create a positive impact is woven into everything we do - from the artwork and the sentiments we create, to the paper and printing process we choose, to the non-profits we support both financially and personally.  The core values of Write Hook stem from our personal values and beliefs.  Our company is an extension of who we are as people.  We are excited for you to get to know us!

Left Brain

As a road warrior traveling up to 80% of the time, I was ready to step off the treadmill of hotels, Motels, airports, and obscure locations.  Missing too many of life’s moments, I decided to go in search of something more meaningful and fulfilling that combined my talents and passions.  As a greeting card lover at heart, I had the best of intentions but my lack of time combined by my propensity to procrastinate meant I was constantly missing events in the lives of those closest to me. Being an eternal optimist with an entrepreneurial Spirit, I recognized an opportunity … have someone else do this for me!  Why not create an online greeting card company where in one sitting I can create a card, personalize the sentiment, schedule the mailing date and have someone else be responsible for mailing it for me.  Greeting card guilt gone!

At the same time, my husband and I were looking for a photographer for our wedding.  On the recommendation of a friend, I contacted a photographer who came highly recommended.  Little did I know how life altering that one phone call would be …

Right Brain

Surviving cancer was my calling card to help people better communicate about the difficult, sensitive, and irreverent moments in life. Even though I was blessed with a fantastic support network, I found that the people closest to me did not always know how to respond to what was happening in my life. I realized in an "aha moment" that often people don't send cards during difficult times, NOT because they don't care, but because they cannot find the right mix of art and sentiment in existing cards. People are not cookie cutter cut-outs ... each of us is unique, and the ability to create a card that is special to the individual cannot be found at traditional outlets. A personalized card that adds levity to brevity or shares a heartfelt sentiment can be very medicinal for the spirit. There is nothing that can replace the "tangible communication" of a beautiful card that can be cherished, held and read at whim.

Further inspiration was derived through my frustration of not being able to hand-write cards due to the severe physical limitations of my treatments. It dawned on me - Why not merge the ease of finding a card online with the benefit of being able to customize sentiments AND have a REAL PAPER card sent in the mail? I have always found e-cards to be impersonal and they are difficult to hang on a fridge … Having the ability to create and send a real card seemed like the perfect mix of old world communication with new world technology. My desire to create a greeting card company was born. I could meld my writing, my art, my entrepreneurial spirit and my passion … I was jotting down ideas when the phone rang …

Sometimes the stars align in a perfect way.  Lori happened to be the one who answered the photo-phone that day when Seraya called about photography.  Through the course of their conversation, they “clicked” and began to discuss their personal life circumstances.  Lori shared about her recent experience with cancer and how she wanted to make a difference in the lives of other people through creating her own company.  Seraya shared her quest to begin her own business.

According to Seraya, she will always remember Lori’s next sentence … “I know this sounds really weird given that we have only met telephonically, but how would you like to work together?  You don’t need to know someone chronologically to know their heart!”

And, the beginnings of Write Hook came to be!
